Dr. Mann is a research psychologist, U.S. Air Force veteran, and former police officer with over 32 years of professional experience. His research focuses on the emotional components of human experience and their impact on behavior, attitudes, and beliefs. In addition, he has more than 12 years of applied experience in data science, research methods, and statistics.

As Chief Science Officer at Cognovi Labs, Dr. Mann leads innovation in Psychological Artificial Intelligence, developing advanced capabilities to enhance human performance at scale. His commitment to understanding psychological threats and early warning detection systems for suicide ideation and behaviors (SIB).

Recently, Dr. Mann co-authored research presented at the European Symposium on Suicide and Suicidal Behavior in Rome, Italy (August 2024). The study, “Emotion Signatures of Suicidal Patients: Use of AI for Early Indications and Warnings,” served as the foundation for multiple Psychological AI concepts, demonstrating their potential to contribute meaningfully to suicide prevention.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mann has led multiple research and data science teams that have served various government clients. He has conducted extensive research on psychopathology and the role of emotions in maladaptive behaviors. Some of his previous projects include the development of a model that analyzes textual data to assess the relationship between emotional expression and radicalization, psychological susceptibility to disinformation, as well as research on the evolutionary derived benefits of stalking from a psychological perspective.

Dr. Mann earned his B.S. in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Excelsior College, graduating Cum Laude. He later obtained an M.S. and Ph.D. in Forensic Psychology from Walden University, focusing heavily on quantitative methodologies. His doctoral thesis, “Use of Machine Learning to Predict Ethical Drift in Law Enforcement,” was instrumental in shaping his efforts to apply AI in psychological research.

Prior to his career in psychology and data science, Dr. Mann served honorably in the U.S. Air Force, deploying twice to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Storm. In law enforcement, he was a member of the elite Special Operations Response Team (SORT), an undercover narcotics detective, and a homicide investigator. He has also guest lectured on the psychology of deception at the University of Florida and the University of Central Florida.
